WinkBed Mattress Firmness and Feel
Firmness and feel tell you a lot about a mattress. In particular, these factors will influence whether a mattress is a good fit for your sleep position(s) and other preferences.
How Firm Is the WinkBed?
We ranked the WinkBed Luxury Firm around 7/10 on the firmness scale. The industry standard for medium firmness is 6.5/10, so this suggests the Luxury Firm model is a bit firmer-than-average. If you want some more give with your mattress, check out our best soft mattresses.
Of course, firmness is slightly subjective. Depending on your body weight and personal preferences, you might find that this mattress feels a touch firmer or softer.

Sleeping on the WinkBed
We enjoyed a pleasant balance of comfort and support while back sleeping on the WinkBed. The zoning in this mattress provides especially great lumbar support.
With this zoning, it is also one of the best orthopedic mattresses and best mattresses for lower back pain and sciatica.
We experienced a bit too much pressure while side sleeping on this mattress, which makes sense considering it’s a bit firmer than average. Side sleepers might want to check out the Softer model or a dedicated mattress for side sleepers, although it’s worth noting that lighter- and medium-weight sleepers might experience more pressure relief. Also, check out the Softer model if you want one of the best mattresses for hip pain.
We experienced decent support while stomach sleeping on the WinkBed, although folks who spend all night in this position will probably prefer the even more supportive Firmer model.
All that being said, the WinkBed really is one of the most comfortable mattresses we have reviewed.
What Does the WinkBed Feel Like?
Thanks to its coils, the WinkBed has a bouncy, responsive innerspring feel. It’s easy to move around and change positions on this mattress.
It also has that plush pillow top feel right on top. Take a look at our best pillow top mattresses to see more options like the WinkBed.
Average Weight Sleepers – 130lbs – 230lbs
Average-weight back sleepers should enjoy a balance of comfort and support on the WinkBed. Average-weight side sleepers who prefer a slightly firmer feel should be good to go on this mattress, while folks who prefer a plusher feel will want to consider the Softer model. The WinkBed Luxury Firm is a decent match for average-weight stomach sleepers, although folks who spend all night in this position might want to opt for the Firmer model.
Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230lbs
Heavyweight back sleepers who weigh less than 300 pounds should find this mattress to be a good fit. Folks who weigh more than that will probably want to look for a dedicated mattress for heavy people. Heavyweight side sleepers will probably want to consider the Softer model to obtain plenty of pressure relief. The Luxury Firm WinkBed probably won’t be supportive enough for heavyweight stomach sleepers, who will most likely prefer the WinkBed Plus.
Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130lbs
Overall, lightweight sleepers should fare well on the WinkBed Luxury Firm. Back sleepers should enjoy a blend of comfort and support, side sleepers should obtain decent pressure relief, and stomach sleepers should feel well-supported.

WinkBed Mattress Performance
Before you make up your mind about the WinkBed, there are still several important factors to consider. We put this mattress through a gamut of tests with regard to temperature regulation, motion transfer, edge support, and more. Let’s see how it performed!
Sleeping Hot or Cold
The WinkBed incorporates several design features that should help protect you from sleeping hot. The cover utilizes cooling Tencel, while the gel infusion in the foam helps dissipate heat and the coils allow for plenty of airflow throughout the mattress.

Motion Transfer
The WinkBed does not perform the best when it comes to motion transfer. This is a very bouncy and responsive mattress, so some disturbance travels across the surface of this bed. Keep this in mind if you’re shopping for a mattress for couples.
Edge Support
In our experience, the edge support on the WinkBed is excellent. The supportive coils helped us feel secure while sitting and lying down near the edges of this bed.
Durability
The WinkBed is a durable bed built with high-density foams and sturdy coils, so this mattress shouldn’t sag or break down quickly. Expect this mattress to last for at least 7 to 10 years. Given its durability, we think it is one of the best mattresses under $2,000.
Off-Gassing
We didn’t observe any notable off-gassing from this mattress. The WinkBed is made with CertiPUR-US certified foams, meaning the foams are made without ozone depleters, PBDE flame retardants, mercury, lead, and heavy metals, formaldehyde, and prohibited phthalates regulated by the Consumer Product Safety Commission. The mattress is also low in volatile organic compound emissions (VOCs).
Noise
At the time of our review, we didn’t observe any noise while testing out this mattress. Because the WinkBed incorporates coils, it’s possible they could start to squeak a bit as time goes on.
Sex
The best mattress for sex makes it easy for partners to change positions. Because the WinkBed is bouncy and responsive, it should be a great fit. Partners shouldn’t feel stuck in this mattress, and it’s easy to move around on top of the bed.

WinkBed Complaints
Not surprisingly, one of the biggest complaints about the WinkBed mattress is that it doesn’t do a great job of minimizing motion transfer. This means that light sleepers could be disturbed by a partner’s or pet’s movements during the night. Some would-be customers also grumble about the relatively high price of this mattress.
WinkBed vs Saatva Mattress
To assist your comparison shopping, we’ve pitted the WinkBed against one of its biggest competitors: the Saatva Classic mattress. Here’s a look at how these beds compare in terms of construction, firmness, feel, price, and ideal sleepers.
Both the WinkBed and the Saatva mattress are innerspring mattresses that feature plush layers on top and come in multiple firmness options.
Given that these beds have similar constructions, it’s probably not surprising that they’re also similar in terms of firmness. We ranked both of these mattresses around 7/10, or a touch firmer-than-average.
The WinkBed and Saatva are also similar when it comes to feel. These are both bouncy and responsive mattresses with a softer pillow top on top.
When comparing the cost of each mattress, a Queen-size WinkBed starts at $1799.00 for full price, while the same size Saatva costs a bit less at a full price of $1995.00.
Who Should Get the WinkBed?
- Larger sleepers who require a bit more support
- People who are looking for a more substantial mattress
Who Should Get the Saatva?
- Shoppers who want multiple mattress height choices
- Those who are looking to spend a little less on their mattress purchase
- Light- and medium-weight back sleepers who don’t require as much lumbar support
WinkBed vs GhostBed Mattress
Another bed folks often compare the WinkBed to is the GhostBed, another high-quality, bed-in-a-box mattress. The GhostBed mattress, is made from a combination of foams, while the WinkBed is a hybrid bed made with both foam and coils.
The WinkBed comes in three firmness options, while the GhostBed comes in just one. In this review, I tested the Luxury Firm version of the WinkBed and gave it a 7/10 on the firmness scale. We thought the GhostBed was firmer, giving it an 8/10 on the firmness scale.
Another key difference between these mattresses is the price point: the GhostBed is notably cheaper than the WinkBed. Hybrid mattresses, like the WinkBed, are usually more expensive but they’re also typically more durable.
Who Should Get the WinkBed?
- Sleepers looking for multiple firmness options
- People who want a longer lasting, sturdier bed.
Who Should Get the GhostBed?
- Those who are after a firm mattress and who like the bouncy feel of latex
- Sleepers looking to save on their mattress purchase.
